Ieasa Western Cape Calendar Of Events in February

As part of their bid to educate all involved in a property purchase, rental or management, whether professionals or members of the general public, the Institute of Estate Agents have included workshops for the layman, so as to provide a more 'inclusive' service.

Evans says a legal update session for agents will be held on Thursday 18 February from 9:30 am to 12 noon at their training centre in Sheldon Way, Pinelands. The cost to members for this workshop will be R50 plus VAT and for non-members R250 plus VAT.

This is according to Annette Evans, regional manager of IEASA,Western Cape, who says every agent who has a full status Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC) is required to attend ongoing training to retain their licence and agents accumulating Continuous Professional Development (CPD) via IEASA will gain non-verifiable points in proportion to the hours spent at each training session. IEASA’s aim is to offer a variety of skills development training for all licensed property professionals in 2016.

Evans says the calendar of events and training lined up for February will include the following:

On 10 February, a rentals workshop presented by Cilna Steyn, specialist in eviction law and author of “Property and Rental Eviction - the Landlord’s Guide”, which covers all legal aspects of rental property management for rental agents. This workshop is ideal for the DIY landlord as well as estate agents and will cost R684 for members and R912 including VAT for non-members.

Evans says a free public information session will also be held in the evening from 6pm to 8pm, which will cover the rights, roles and responsibilities of tenants and landlords, as well as lease clauses, all presented in layman’s language.

The first group of the year’s full training in National Qualifications Framework level 4 in real estate (NQF4) will also begin on 10 February, with another starting on 24 February. This course runs over a period of six months and covers the principles of real estate property law, sales and marketing ethics, and growing a business. This qualification involves submitting a Portfolio of Evidence and a variety of assignments, both practical and theoretical. The cost is R13 800 for members and R14 650 for non-members.

Evans says a legal update session for agents will be held on Thursday 18 February from 9:30 am to 12 noon at their training centre in Sheldon Way, Pinelands. The cost to members for this workshop will be R50 plus VAT and for non-members R250 plus VAT. This session will include analyses of new case studies and new clauses in contracts by an attorney from the Cape Law Society.

She says apart from the training scheduled for the month, there are two networking and social eventslined up: the IEASA Golf Day on Thursday, 11 February at the Bellville Golf Club and a City Sightseeing Bus Tour on 19 February. Agents are encouraged to attend both of these as they are ideal ways of meeting agents outside of the ‘normal’ circles and build up a great referral network.
