This is according to Seeff agent, Rosmarie Bell, who says despite this, the estate is still somewhat of a hidden gem. This is largely because properties here do not often come onto the market.
Surrounded by farmlands, vineyards and the scenic Hottentots Holland Mountains, Somerset West is one of the most sought-after residential areas in the Cape. For family buyers, and those with an equestrian interest especially, Tre Donne is an excellent choice, she says.
The estate is just under 40 hectares in extent and boasts 24-hour security. There are about 94 properties and the land sizes are generous, ranging from around 3 500sqm to 5 000sqm in size. It is zoned for agricultural use, and owners can keep horses and small livestock, as well as, for example, a private vineyard or orchard.
Aside from clean air, residents get to enjoy fabulous views, something that is a big drawcard for buyers, says Bell.
She says there are still a few vacant plots up for grabs at prices that start from around R800 000.
Built homes tend to cost from around the R3 million price mark and, for those seeking luxury living, range to about R14 million for a top-end multi-levelled home with a floor space of 1 100sqm and bespoke finishes, including fireplaces and air-conditioning.
The home has a designer kitchen with double cooking facilities, separate scullery and freezer room, multiple lounges, including a family room with a bar and indoor braai, a wood-fitted study, private cinema, wine cellar, indoor jacuzzi and sauna, salt water pool, borehole and irrigated garden.
The home comes with four bedrooms, a separate two bedroom flat, designer kitchen with double cooking facilities, separate scullery and freezer room, multiple lounges, including a family room with a bar and indoor braai, a wood-fitted study, plush private cinema, stunning wine cellar, indoor jacuzzi and sauna, salt-water pool, borehole and irrigated garden.
Best of all, Bell says the home has a generator, housed in a generator room, to power the home during times of need.
She says Somerset West tends to draw buyers from across the globe, and many luxury homes in the area are owned by UK and European swallows who come here to escape the winters.
“In recent years we have also seen an influx of buyers from other provinces, especially theJohannesburg and Pretoria areas.”
Part of the attraction of the village is that residents get to enjoy the best of country living, yet are still within about a 20 to 40 minute radius of the city and airport, ideal for the commuting executive, says Bell.
Down the road are the many attractions of the Cape, including top wine farms and the Blue Flag beaches of the Strand.
These days, she says almost no price is too high for buyers who want a home in a top-class location, especially a security estate. Tre Donne not only offers the security, but also one of the best lifestyles that money can buy.
